Vice President Joe Biden was in Portland Thursday, attending a fundraiser
for the re-election campaign of Congressman Kurt Schrader
<http://schrader.house.gov/> .

Protesters against trade policies that send local jobs overseas, greeted
him.

Protesters specifically are against the Korea Free Trade Agreement
<http://www.ustr.gov/trade-agreements/free-trade-agreements/korus-fta> .
This is something they said President Obama was against such trade
agreements during his campaign trail, but now it looks like he's changed his
mind.

In June, Obama said he planned to introduce the Korea Free Trade Agreement
for a vote in congress. Protesters said Representative Kurt Schrader
actually pushed President Obama to take the next step and move forward with
the agreement. According to Thursday's protesters this trade agreement will
cost hundreds of thousands of Oregon jobs, which is bad news considering
Oregon's current 10 percent unemployment rate.

"Oregon is expected to loose thousands more jobs with this agreement,
particularly Oregon's high tech sector," said Arthur Stamoulis, Director for
the Oregon Fair Trade Campain <http://citizenstrade.org/oregon.php> .

"Korea has a very developed high tech center, workers are paid far far less
than in our silicon forest here," Stamoulis added. "Oregon needs jobs not
job killing trade deals."

Representative Schrader and President Obama argue that the trade agreement
will increase exports into the country. Stamoulis said that may be true, but
it would also increase imports far more.
