109 Sign Rep. Michaud Letter Requesting Meeting with President to
Discuss Trade

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Mike Michaud (ME-02) issued the
following statement after sending a letter that was signed by 109 of his
Democratic colleagues to President Barack Obama requesting a meeting to
discuss the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and U.S. trade policy.

"Passing the Korea-U.S. FTA without making major improvements to the
pact will continue our flawed trade policy that has led to the
off-shoring of U.S. jobs, the decline of our manufacturing sector, and
our ballooning trade deficit."

"A meeting with President Obama will give my colleagues and me an
opportunity to express our support for a revised trade policy that
creates jobs in all sectors of the economy. We look forward to having
a constructive dialogue with the President about how our trade policy
can be improved so that it benefits all Americans, not just the big,
multinational corporations."

"The American people do not support more of the same bad trade deals for
good reason: they are bad for our economy and they take away American
jobs. We want to work with this Administration to get trade right, and
a meeting with the President will help us do that."

The full text of the letter, as well as those who signed it, is
attached.
