Summarizing, rather than translating:

Colombian labor activist Daniel Aguirre was murdered Friday, April  
27th, at about 10pm, in the municipality of Florida, Valle del Cauca,  
by a gunman who shot him twice in the head.  Daniel was a spokesman  
for the workers during the 2008 corteros (sugar cane cutters) strike  
and among the signers of the agreements that resulted from it.  At the  
time of his death he was an active member of the cane cutters’ union  
SINALCORTEROS.

His death comes less than two weeks after the Obama administration  
deemed Colombia’s progress under the “labor action plan” satisfactory  
and moved to implement the pending free trade agreement.
