POLITICO: McCarthy puts trade on agenda for May

5/1/15 2:58 PM EDT
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a memo today on the May legislative agenda that the House will focus on trade, though he indicated exact timing has not been decided.

“Given that 38 million American jobs are tied to trade, we will continue to lay the groundwork for the Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (Ryan) and a robust 21st Century trade agenda,” the memo says, a reference to the trade promotion authority bill introduced by House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan.

Trade got a mention after bills on the defense reauthorization, Iran sanctions, intelligence gathering, science and technology, legislative branch appropriations and the Highway Trust Fund.

After the fast track bill, the majority leader listed anti-abortion and education policy legislation.

“Exact timing for consideration of these bills will be relayed as soon as possible,” he said of the latter three bills.

Senate Majority Leader McConnell has said he plans to go to TPA after the Iran bill.
