New Zealand Releases Final Legal Text Of TPP Deal
January 25, 2016

The New Zealand government on Monday (Jan. 25) published the English-language version of the final legal text <http://www.tpp.mfat.govt.nz/text> and annexes of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), ahead of the formal signing of the agreement on Feb. 4 in Auckland. New Zealand serves as the depositary for the TPP.

New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay announced the publication of the final English text in a press release, saying New Zealand would subsequently issue the Spanish- and French-language versions.

The final text was released after the preliminary version published on Nov. 5 underwent legal scrubbing. The release of final text will likely prompt stakeholders to take a close look to see if any substantive changes were made from the preliminary text.

It is unclear if or when TPP countries will release legally scrubbed versions of the roughly 120 side letters that will be signed along with the agreement.

As of early January, TPP countries had finished the legal scrub <http://insidetrade.com/node/151956> of the English-language version of the text and annexes, but were still working on the Spanish-language version. Canada, which is carrying out to the legal scrub of the French-language version, has not commented publicly on the status of that effort.
