Doctors Without Borders, other health groups’ letter on NAFTA and access to medicines
 
As NAFTA renegotiation talks reach a pivotal stage this week in Montreal, Doctors Without Borders, Consumers Union, AFSCME, Aliance of Retired Americans, the AFL-CIO, Public Citizen and nearly 100 other organizations from the United States, Canada and Mexico sent a letter today to their trade and health ministers demanding that, “Any renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) must not undermine access to affordable medicines.”
 
With one in five people in the United States failing to fill prescriptions due to their cost, patient-advocate, consumer and other health-focused organizations in the three countries sent the letter following reports that measures being negotiated in the NAFTA talks could contribute to escalating prescription drug prices and worsen access to treatment.
