Dear colleagues,

Millions of people around the world may not get COVID-19 vaccines until as late as 2024—unless President Biden reverses the Trump administration’s deadly position at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Join Public Citizen, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill), South African Counsellor to the WTO, Mustaqeem De Gama and representatives from Doctors Without Borders, for an emergency webinar THIS THURSDAY, February 18th <https://actionnetwork.org/forms/us-must-lift-wto-block-on-covid-19-vaccine-technology> on the WTO-Big Pharma collusion that threatens global production of COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostics.

RSVP HERE <https://actionnetwork.org/forms/us-must-lift-wto-block-on-covid-19-vaccine-technology>

The virus abides no borders: no one will be safe until people worldwide can be vaccinated, tested and treated.

The WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) requires WTO signatory countries to provide lengthy monopoly protections for medicines, tests and the technologies used to produce them.

These rules block countries and manufacturers from accessing the formulas and know-how needed to boost production for COVID-19 vaccines. There simply is not enough to go around.

That’s why 100 nations are supporting a temporary, emergency “TRIPS waiver,” introduced by South Africa and India, for COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostics.

The United States has come out on the side of Big Pharma and is leading the effort to block this emergency waiver!

Continued U.S. opposition will mean needless suffering and loss of life. And if there are outbreaks anywhere, mutations could create variants that are not susceptible to current vaccines or are more infectious or more deadly. Implementing the waiver is also critical to reboot the global economy on which so much of the U.S. economy relies.

There can be no end to the public health crises and resulting economic crises, here or anywhere, if people in developing countries cannot access vaccines and treatments.

RSVP: Join us on Thursday, February 18th at 3 PM ET to learn what you can do right now to ask President Biden to support this emergency waiver at the WTO. <https://actionnetwork.org/forms/us-must-lift-wto-block-on-covid-19-vaccine-technology/>

Hope to see you there,

Ryan
