Senate Finance Committee to hold Tai’s confirmation hearing next week

Katherine Tai, President Biden’s pick for U.S. Trade Representative, will testify before the Senate Finance Committee next Thursday, the panel said this week.
The hearing will take place on Feb. 25 at 10 AM.
“Katherine Tai has the experience she needs to succeed as USTR, and her record of getting wins for American workers demonstrates she knows how to champion the values that matter to U.S. families,” Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) said in a statement. “I intend to advance Ms. Tai’s nomination as quickly as possible to ensure the Biden administration isn’t left short-handed in the fight to help even the playing field for American workers.”
Biden hopes to have Tai in place by next month, as Inside U.S. Trade reported <https://insidetrade.com/node/170674> earlier this week. If so, Tai’s confirmation hearing likely would have to be followed by a committee vote and confirmation by the full Senate that same week.
The Senate Finance Committee also is considering Xavier Becerra, Biden’s U.S. Health and Human Services nominee, and Adewale Adeyemo, the president’s pick for deputy Treasury secretary, next week. Adeyemo will testify on Feb. 23 and Becerra the following day, according to the panel’s website.
