This letter was written from an international perspective, but IPEF’s pinkwashing measures to date are also very much pro-offshoring.

Subject: Over 60 organisations oppose pinkwashing in the IPEF

December 15 was the last day of the first round of negotiations of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework in Brisbane, yet another agreement to push the trade interests of the US and its digital corporations in the region.

Over 63 women’s rights organisations, labour unions, and allies -- including APWLD, DAWN, Gender, and Trade Coalition, IT for Change, Public Services International (Asia and Pacific), and Third World Network -- issued a statement condemning the IPEF's Upskilling Initiative for Women and Girls that seeks to entrench the status quo on unrestricted cross border data flows that further Big Tech interests in the region, in the guide of digital trade liberalisation for women's empowerment. The statement was also presented before negotiators who were on the ground in Brisbane.

The endorsing organisations called out the use of gender equality and women's empowerment as a trojan horse.

We conveyed our strong opposition to proposed rules that restrict governments from being able to effectively regulate Big Tech and implement rights-enhancing, domestic data policies and inclusive digital infrastructure.

You can see the detailed statement that was submitted here <https://itforchange.net/node/2264>.

We would like to thank all organisations and individuals who stepped in to shape and support the efforts in drafting and circulating this statement and joining the fight against Big Tech power.

In solidarity,
Avantika
