The Biden administration has launched Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) negotiations with 13 nations to set rules for 40% of the global economy. Big Tech corporations are using their monopoly powers and lobbyists to try to hijack IPEF talks and lock in international rules that guarantee their continued abuse of workers, consumers, and smaller businesses. They want an IPEF "digital trade" agreement that would set binding rules to handcuff Congress, U.S. agencies and other nations’ governments and derail policies that end Big Tech abuses against gig workers and workers' rights, violation of consumer privacy and civil rights, and abuse of smaller businesses. 
Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien will share from the frontlines of fighting for Amazon workers behind the wheel of any truck or hard at work in any facility as people around the country rise up and collectively demand better workplace standards and reject Amazon’s exploitation of working people nationwide.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Cal.), who represents Silicon Valley and is the author of the new book Dignity in a Digital Age, will discuss how democratizing digital innovation can build economically vibrant and inclusive communities instead of us being subject to tech’s control of our economy, workplaces and economic future.
Rethink Trade director Lori Wallach will release a new Briefing Paper that summarizes the digital trade threat to workers posed by derailiment of policies to regulate against bossware surveillance, discriminatory hiring alogorithyms, race-to-the-bottom digital offshoring, anti-union snooping and misclassifiaction to evade collective bargaining.
If Big Tech is able to rig IPEF talks, a resulting deal could result in NAFTA-level damage to millions more workers here and around the world. This event will also spotlight what can be done to ensure that instead IPEF is the first new worker-centered trade deal.
