We'll be joined by Iliana Paul from Sierra Club, sharing about Sierra
Club's recent report Trading Away Our Climate: How Corporations Use Trade
and Investment Agreements to Undermine Action on Climate Change

As a reminder, Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) is a mechanism
written into many older trade and investment agreements that allows individual
corporations to challenge laws, regulations, permitting decisions and even
court decisions that they view as a violation of their supposed trade
agreement rights.  These ISDS suits completely circumvent the U.S. judicial
system and any other countries’ judicial system, and instead are heard
before private tribunals empowered to award millions and even billions of
dollars in taxpayer money as damages.  The ISDS system is an obstacle to
robust climate action and an affront to democracy.
