WASHINGTON, D.C. — *Today*, Public Citizen, the National Partnership for
New Americans (NPNA), congressional leaders, and activists from front-line
communities will host a timely discussion on how U.S. trade and immigration
policies fuel displacement and drive labor exploitation, while corporations
profit and migrants pay the price.

At the heart of Donald Trump’s vicious crackdown on immigrants is the lie
he has fomented that they are to blame for working people’s frustrations.
As we wind down Immigrant Heritage Month, in the face of baseless, racist,
partisan attacks on our communities, it is now more important than ever to
advocate for immigrants and the essential role they play in our nation.

For years, politicians have misled Americans, fostering hatred against
immigrants to hide the truth: it was always about profits over people, that
cruelty towards migrants was an acceptable consequence. A new report by
Public Citizen and the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) shows
that, in fact, working people at home and abroad have suffered from “free
trade” policies, which Trump claims to hate but has no intention of fixing.
