<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;" class=""><div class=""><b class="">Heritage Action urges ‘no’ vote on TPA bill</b></div><br class=""><div class="">6/10/15 7:12 PM EDT</div><p class="">A leading conservative group today urged House Republicans to vote against a trade promotion authority bill until Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner make “ironclad public commitments” that the U.S. Export-Import Bank won’t be reauthorized.</p><p class="">“Heritage Action has always been a free trade organization, but free-market conservatives are understandably split on this president’s request for fast track authority,” the group said in a <a href="https://www.politicopro.com/f/?f=39171&inb" target="_blank" class="">statement </a>putting House members on notice it will negatively score a vote for the bill, which combines a renewal of trade promotion authority with Trade Adjustment Assistance to help retrain workers who have lost their jobs because of trade.</p><p class="">Heritage Action has been trying for years to kill both the Export-Import Bank and the TAA program. They are upset TAA has been combined with the trade promotion authority bill and that Republican leaders have provided an opening for the Ex-Im Bank to be renewed.</p><p class="">“Including an egregiously ineffective welfare program in a bill intended to promote trade and promising a clear path forward on the Export-Import Bank, which is the antithesis of free trade, only exacerbates those concerns,” Heritage said. “The Trade Act of 2015 (H.R. 1314) is no longer a bill intended to advance free trade — it has become a special interest boondoggle that deserves defeat."</p><p class=""><em class="">— Doug Palmer</em></p></body></html>
