Bush in 2007, but was renegotiated during the Obama administration and took effect in 2012.<o:p class=""></o:p></p><p style="margin-right: 0in; margin-left: 0in; font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;" class="">Since the deal entered into force, the U.S. trade deficit with South Korea has more than doubled.<o:p class=""></o:p></p><p style="margin-right: 0in; margin-left: 0in; font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;" class="">The call to renegotiate the treaty came after Trump abruptly announced on Thursday that he would not seek to withdraw the U.S. from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) after threatening to do so earlier this week.<o:p class=""></o:p></p><p style="margin-right: 0in; margin-left: 0in; font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;" class="">In the Reuters interview, Trump also called on South Korea to pay for the THAAD missile defense system, which the U.S. began moving to a deployment site in South Korea earlier this week. He pegged the cost of the system around $1 billion.<o:p class=""></o:p></p><p style="margin-right: 0in; margin-left: 0in; font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;" class="">"I informed South Korea it would be appropriate if they paid. It's a billion dollar system," he said.
