On May 10, the ILC received a RRM petition from the AFL-CIO and other groups. The petition alleged that workers at the Tridonex automotive parts facility in Matamoros are being denied the right of free association and collective bargaining. The ILC reviews RRM petitions that it receives, and the accompanying information, within 30 days. </p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.25rem; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.6; text-rendering: optimizeLegibility; padding: 0px;" class="">Today the ILC determined, in response to the petition filed on May 10, that there is sufficient credible evidence of a denial of rights enabling the good faith invocation of enforcement mechanisms. It will formally trigger an investigation into well-documented serious labor violations at the Tridonex factory in Matamoros, Mexico. We hope the process will result in justice for the many workers whose jobs and livelihoods were impacted by attempting to exercise their basic worker rights, as well as hold their employer accountable for violating their commitments under the USMCA. Employers need to be deterred from engaging with sham “protection unions,” whose leaders often receive kickbacks and negotiate secret deals with company bosses that undermine workers.
