Improve the real economy--co-sponsor the TRADE Act

(To use the alert, or share with others, follow the link above.)

During the last decade and longer while the country enjoyed a "robust
economy," millions of jobs were lost to the outsourcing of our manufacturing
base due to "free trade" deals.

Free trade agreements have lacked effective protections for labor, the
environment, and consumers.

Rep. Mike Michaud has re-introduced the TRADE Act of 2009, HR 3012, which
will address the deficiencies in U.S. trade policy. There are already over
100 co-sponsors.

If your member of Congress is already a co-sponsor, ask them to encourage
other members to sign on. Offer your thanks for their support. Find the
co-sponsors here.

If not a co-sponsor, ask your Congressperson to cosponsor the 2009 Trade
Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment (TRADE) Act.

We encourage you to use your own words to change the title and text below.

In recent years the United States has entered into agreements that have been
called "free trade" agreements but in fact deal with many other issues and
have undermined the U.S. economy by facilitating and encouraging the
outsourcing and off-shoring of jobs. The Trade Reform, Accountability,
Development and Employment (TRADE) Act would address the problem by changing
the rules to set standards for labor, environmental, consumer and other
protections. The TRADE Act has been re-introduced by Rep. Mike Michaud
(D-ME) and is currently circulating in Congress for cosponsors.

With more and more Americans losing their jobs and wages stagnating, the
time has come to enact legislation, which will correct the flaws that
negatively impact American workers, consumers, and the environment.

Please encourage President Obama to fulfill his campaign promises to review
the "free trade" agreements, and please co-sponsor the TRADE Act.
