Dear friends:
Citizens Trade Campaign (CTC), the nation’s largest fair trade
advocacy coalition, is pleased to announce formal affiliation by the
Sierra Club, the nation’s largest grassroots environmental
organization. The affiliation comes as CTC intensifies its
campaigning on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which negotiators
are pushing to complete by this October.
We are excited to be working hand-in-hand with the Sierra Club for
trade policy reforms needed to create a more just and sustainable
global economy. The Sierra Club’s policy expertise and grassroots
influence will be a huge asset as our coalition continues to demand a
change in direction in the TPP negotiations. As Ilana Solomon, the
Sierra Club's lead on trade noted, by partnering with labor, family
farm, consumer and other social justice organizations through CTC,
Sierra Club members’ voices will likewise be amplified in the ongoing
TPP debate.
The Sierra Club joins CTC’s existing member organizations, Americans
for Democratic Action, Communications Workers of America, Friends of
the Earth U.S., Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy,
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers,
International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers, International Brotherhood of Teamsters,
International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers,
International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, National Family
Farm Coalition, National Farmers Union, Pubic Citizen’s Global Trade
Watch, TransAfrica Forum, UNITE HERE, United Methodist Church General
Board of Church and Society, United Brotherhood of Carpenters, United
Mineworkers of America, United Steelworkers, United Students Against
Sweatshops and Witness for Peace.
Attached are the Sierra Club's guidelines for working with Club
volunteers and staff on trade issues.
Best,
Arthur Stamoulis
